EXcess

A Solo Exhibition by Claire Chambless

In partnership with Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta

Exhibition Open to the Public beginning June 7th, 2018

In partnership with Mandarin Oriental Atlanta, Bill Lowe Gallery presents the debut solo exhibition of Atlanta artist Claire Chambless. The exhibition evolves through the public spaces and crescendos to a site-specific immersive installation in the Taipan Lounge.

EXcess is a multi-dimensional exploration of unconventional materials and sensory experiences to address concepts of female identity and over-stimulation in the digital age. Each piece also prominently incorporates a symbolic fan motif which echoes the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s iconic brand symbol, the eleven blade fan.

My work examines the psychology of material and process. Discarded household objects like broken honeycomb blinds, satin bedsheets and pleather become materials that carry subconscious associations of feminine identity. Their origins are important as they allow me to reclaim, recontextualize and personify material culture by infusing them with power, elevating the mundane to the iconic.
